New School Penny Roll Pointing 

This is a highly skilled pointing finish to create the illusion of perfect brickwork, the joints are finished flush then a colour wash is applied to the bricks and the mortar joint, then a 4mm raking tool cuts a level line to the joints revealing the previously applied mortar in white.

Ribbon Pointing 

Ribbon pointing is a highly skilled pointing style 

creating the illusion of perfect brickwork, everything is plumb and level, it was invented in the 1800s to mask cheaper bricks, as guaged brickwork was very expensive.

Weather Struck Pointing

 

Weather struck pointing is a very common pointing style, the joint is struck at a angle creating a run off for water and the excess cut off using a specialist tool known as a frenchman.

Flush Pointing

Flush pointing is also a very common pointing style, used a lot for heritage work, its good for sorting out irregularities in the brick, a piece of timber batten or a wire brush is used to finish the joints followed by brushing.
