About This Course
This two day professionally tutored course that builds on the introductory, will cover how to make colour washes, prepping the brickwork joint ready for pointing, applying the lime mortar with a hawk and slasher and finishing off the mortar joints, Lime mortar mixes and theory related to the craft and providing the students with the necessary knowledge and awareness of the damage that can be caused by ill-considered tools and application of inappropriate materials on period and historic buildings. Three Day Weather struck Pointing
This three day professionally tutored course that builds on the introductory, will cover how to make colour washes, prepping the brickwork joint ready for pointing, applying the lime mortar with a hawk and pointing trowel or small tool and finishing off the joints, Lime mortar mixes and theory related to the craft and providing the students with the necessary knowledge and awareness of the damage that can be caused by ill-considered tools and application of inappropriate materials on period and historic buildings. Weather struck pointing dating from the 19th century and most common in civil engineering work, this profile is formed by compressing the top portion of the joint more than the lower, inclining the blade of the trowel or jointer as the joint is finished in a one-direction stroke. This causes the upper edge of the joint to come slightly in from the ariss of the lower bricks and never protruding. The perpends, which are struck first are sloped from left to right to angle it flush to the neighbouring brick, the bed joints are cut using a specialist tool known as a frenchman, which we will cover how to make. Students that happen to progress quickly on the course can use the time left to practice variations of the weather struck such as (advanced weather struck) or double struck, also known as (birds beak)
